This employment opportunity is open to Nunavut Inuit only.
The Interpreter/Translator acts as an interpreter, using English and South Baffin Dialect Inuktitut languages, at meetings and also translates council and committee meeting minutes and correspondence in order to ensure that there is proper communication between Councillors, staff and the public.
Minimum Qualifications
- Grade 12 Diploma or equivalent
- 1 year experience in a Interpreter/Translator related role.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Good knowledge of computer and other office equipment;
- Good ability to use computerized translation software;
- Strong keyboarding skills with the ability to operate at high levels of speed and accuracy;
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing in Inuktitut and English, with a thorough knowledge of spelling and punctuation;
- Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality;
- Strong interpersonal skills;
- Ability to manage multiple priorities/task while meeting set deadlines;
- Flexible availability including evenings is required for this role.
Assets include:
- Completion of a recognized Interpreter/Translator program;
- Effective communication skills with individuals at all levels of the organization, and strong problem identification and problem resolution skills.
Equivalencies that include a combination of education, skills and abilities to formal education may be considered.
